Waitrose is the food division of the John Lewis Partnership and a supermarket with an ‘upmarket’ reputation. Do its sandwiches measure up to the ‘upmarket’ expectation?
Good to Go is Waitrose’s flagship range of sandwiches, accompanied by the Essential Waitrose brand for simpler and cheaper sandwiches. LoveLife is a range for reduced fat options and there is also a gluten free range called LoveLife Free From Gluten.
As far as ingredients go, Waitrose does offer a number of ‘fancy’ sandwiches that you won’t find anywhere else. These include smoked turkey & mustard slaw, crayfish, prawn & rocket and tuna niçoise. Unsurprisingly, its average sandwich price is also one of the highest among the major supermarket chains.
Waitrose’s average sandwich weight and calorie content are both the lowest of all the major supermarket chains. This is explained by the fact that Waitrose notably does not offer any sub rolls in its sandwich range, although a selection of wraps are available.
