Vegetarians are well catered for in the billion pound sandwich market. The most common basic ingredients are egg, cheese and falafel.
Vegans are less catered for. Although the popular ingredient falafel is itself vegan, most products include non-vegan condiments such as mayonnaise, cream cheese, yogurt dressings and/or butter.
Vegetarian sandwiches are usually cheaper due to their lack of meat. However, vegetarian does not necessarily mean healthier, because there’s not a significant difference in calories between vegetarian and non-vegetarian sandwiches. This makes sense in light of the fact that when it comes to vegetarian sandwich ingredients, cheese is king.
