Tesco uses price points for its sandwiches, addressing all levels of the market.
At the budget end of the product range, there is Tesco Everyday Value – a brand for simpler, cheaper sandwiches. These sandwiches stick to the classic recipes such as egg mayonnaise and cheese & onion. They are all priced at 85p.
At the other end of the scale is Tesco Finest – a brand for ‘luxury’ sandwiches packaged in deli bags. These sandwiches feature gourmet ingredients such as smoked salmon, rare roast beef, ham hock and chorizo sausage. They are all priced at £3.
However, the vast majority of Tesco sandwiches – including wraps and sub rolls – are plainly branded Tesco and are priced somewhere in between these two extremes.
The median price of a sandwich from Tesco works out to be £2.20. This puts Tesco roughly in the middle of the market – charging a little less than the premium grocers such as M&S and Waitrose, but a little more than its rivals Asda and Morrisons.
