The portion size of a sandwich is usually between 100g and 300g, but varies according to:
- product type
Average Weight by Product Type
Sub rolls, baguettes, triples, club sandwiches, deli bag sandwiches and to a lesser extent wraps tend to be heavier than traditional sliced bread sandwiches.
|Deli Bag Sandwich||226g|
Average Weight of a Sandwich
|Cheese & Onion||157g|
|Ham & Mustard||157g|
|Chicken & Bacon||189g|
Average Weight by Brand
There isn’t a lot of variation between the brands.
Interestingly, the coffee houses and freshly prepared sandwich shops are at both ends of the spectrum. Caffè Nero and Costa sandwiches are the lightest on average, while Pret A Manger, EAT., Starbucks and Greggs products are the heaviest on average.
Note that the figures may be skewed by the type of products in each brand range. Greggs, Pret A Manger and EAT. all offer more baguettes on their menus than other brands.
